Red Shift Wave Lab
This is a lab where we modeled light waves and red shift. We did this by taking a tub of water and dipping our finger into it. This caused waves to form around the finger and they moved away from the finger. This also happened when the finger was moving. However the waves in front of the finger were shorter in wavelength and vice versa.
Slow Rate
The finger creates waves. So the energy creates these waves.
Fast Rate
Less energy creates longer wavelengths and larger frequencies and vice versa.
Red Shift
As the energy moves to the right then the waves in front of it will become shorter and the waves behind it will become longer. The same is true when the finger/energy moves to the right.
Conclusion
- The waves that are in front of the finger are getting shorter. This means that the wavelength are shorter and it is a higher frequency.
- The waves that are behind the finger are getting longer. So, the frequency is decreasing and the wavelength increases.
- I think that it is this way because as the object moves forward the light wavelengths are also moving the same way so that the wavelengths are shorter and closer together. This means that the frequency is higher so it is blue-shifted. This also means that the opposite is true.
- If an object If the same object that is producing a light and moved away then the light would shift red because the waves are farther apart which is like the color red.
