Notes
The ratio of recessive to dominant is 1:3. This was for all traits. He realized that each inheritance should be treated as a separate unit. The location of a gene on a chromosome is called the locus. Mendel used 7 different traits to conclude his work:
- Pea Shape
- Seed Color
- Pod Shape
- Pod Color
- Plant Height
- Flower Color
- Flower Position
Discussion Questions
- They were pea plants that self-polinate so he was able to cut of sex parts of either the female or male parts and mix them however he wanted. Prevantative Measures?
- He concluded that organisms inherit two copies of each unit. One from each parent. He also concluded that the sex cells only carried one unit each. Conclusions that led to the law of segragation?
- It helped because it proved that Mendel's ratio of 3:1 was correct. Punnett Squares?
- They are all related because they relate to genes and what they are called and where they are located. They are also related to how traits are passed on. Bunch of Terms (Genes, Homologous Chromosomes, Alleles, Locus, Dominant, Recessive)?
- BB, Bb. This would be BB, BB, Bb, Bb. So none of them will have the white-color. Draw a Punnett square.
